The ethereal setting of Drumtochty Glen in Aberdeenshire was the ideal position for Heather and Andrew to tie the knot.
Possessing initially started out preparing a marquee marriage, they switched venues midway by and have been thrilled with their springtime celebration at the sublime Drumtochty Castle.
From Heather’s rust orange velvet sneakers to her fabulous flower crown to the desire marriage ceremony group (location the WFILfam people, highlighted in orange), there is SO a great deal to like!
How did you two satisfy?
We went to the exact secondary university and had been excellent close friends right before getting a pair in fifth year. Andrew (ultimately) proposed on our 10 year anniversary!
What inspired your wedding options.
We are not extremely regular, so we didn’t really feel notably constrained by the norms. Our main inspiration was simply to make the day comfortable, comfortable and cosy for us and our friends.
Notify us about your venue…
We in fact altered venues mid-way through setting up. Initially, we experienced been likely to have a marquee design Diy marriage ceremony in the grounds of a personal-employ property, but supplied the uncertainty and the logistics of pulling with each other masses of diverse suppliers, we made the decision to transfer.
Drumtochty Castle is located in the village where by Andrew grew up, so it is very regional to us and experienced these types of a familiar experience – we have usually admired it from afar! The point that we could host our closest family members and pals jointly less than one roof for the complete wedding weekend truly appealed to us.
On prime of that, the group at Drumtochty are remarkable and took the pressure out of our planning! The food stuff during the weekend was unbelievable. We handed the location a long list of dietary necessities and they taken care of it with total ease.
We were being so well appeared immediately after by all of the personnel in the course of the weekend and it felt truly intimate to have the location to ourselves.
We experienced the ceremony exterior the front of the castle and our wonderful humanist celebrant was Gary Smith. He acted quickly when a substantial gust of wind blew around a single of the flower arrangements and gave all people a chuckle.
As we only had a little variety of friends, we held our reception in Drumtochty’s eating area, where by we all sat about a one table.
We appreciate your outfits! Explain to us more…
My gown was from Catherine Deane (the Loyal robe). I observed it browsing online and managed to get it in the sale! Bridal boutique browsing just was not for me, and currently being a short woman, I understood that no matter what I located would require a ton of altering in any case – it felt substantially simpler for me to do it from property.
My dress was very summery, an off-white oyster colour and coated in dotted chiffon and lace detailing. It is totally very little like what I assumed I would go for (having no sleeves and currently being off-white!) but I felt tremendous comfy and comfortable, which is the most important detail in my reserve. Frances Bean in Stonehaven altered my gown and was so client and skilful, adjusting it to suit me completely.
I also wore a pair of rust orange velvet mules with my dress, as I couldn’t discover any ‘traditional’ footwear I favored. I adored them and they gave my outfit a good pop of color! Importantly – they were also super cozy. I wore some deep blue sapphire earrings that had been gifted to me on the early morning of the wedding ceremony from Andrew (through his sister) and a gorgeous, multi-coloured flower crown built by our excellent florist, Linda. I had a deep pink velvet cardi for later on in the evening when it received cooler.
Andrew wore his own kilt from R Doig & Sons in Montrose, together with his own components. His kilt pin was a unique gift from his mom and dad some many years ago and his view was a present from me for his 18th birthday.
Your shots are stunning!
We found Loraine Ross when we ended up trawling via the online for a Scottish photographer we beloved. As quickly as we noticed her shots we ended up quickly drawn to her relaxed, candid and colourful style! She was so proficient and useful in the run up to the working day and additional than satisfied to chat to us when we had any inquiries.
We adore how certainly our pictures seize our wedding ceremony day. Loraine fitted in so perfectly on the day and did such a very good career making us sense at ease (devoid of also much posing!). We will cherish our photos forever and we sense so fortunate to have experienced Loraine there to capture them!
What was your to start with dance tune?
We did not system on obtaining a first dance, but our family members and friends were getting none of that and soon after a couple of glasses of champers we finally obliged. Andrew set on Billy Joel’s ‘Piano Man’ as he understands it is a music I enjoy and we had a wee dance to that.
Were there any problems together the way?
Shifting the venue was quite stress filled but we bought there in the conclude! I experience like on the day we entirely forgot about anything demanding in the run up to the marriage ceremony and just loved every single moment. The silent disco was a pretty final-minute addition and we are so glad that we went with it in the conclude.
Did you manage to stick to your finances?
Yes, but that was served massively by the small visitor record.
Any suggestions?
Do not allow force or custom dictate your programs. Do what you want, it is your wedding and the persons that appreciate you will really like what you do!
Honeymoon or minimoon?
We had at first prepared to have a three 7 days trip abroad, it’s possible travelling around Asia or South The us, but we did not e-book nearly anything for the reason that of the uncertainty around travel!
In its place, we used two months on the west coastline of Scotland – it was wonderful. Fingers crossed we can do the major trip subsequent 12 months.
What’s the one particular second you will constantly recall?
Andrew’s brother Neil (best man) life in New Zealand and was not in a position to come across for the wedding day. He recorded his speech, which Andrew’s father, Angus played for us on the working day. It felt like he was in the place with us, it was ideal – there wasn’t a dry eye in the home!
Simply because we weren’t initially setting up on obtaining a cake, we did not seriously imagine about the logistics of when to minimize the cake and what to lower it with. When the time arrived following meal (and immediately after Andrew and I had eaten our reasonable share of wine with our food!), we had been handed a sword to cut the cake! We had been absolutely stunned and located it totally hilarious in equivalent steps and roared with laughter whilst wielding our sword to slash our cake.
Which of your suppliers absolutely rocked your marriage working day? Everyone you’d like to give a shout out to?
All of our suppliers have been awesome and we would endorse them all.
Loraine contributed so much to our day and has supplied us shots that will preserve our recollections refreshing for a lifetime. The crew at Drumtochty ended up awesome all over our wedding weekend and produced us all experience at dwelling.
Linda, our florist, thoroughly knocked it out of the park with the bouquets, they ended up incredible and we were being in overall awe. Gary, our humanist celebrant, gave us a relaxed and particular ceremony that we will generally keep in mind.
Last but not least, the Ritz Trio are this sort of a stylish team of fellas and their new music was the ideal addition to our working day!
Appreciate Heather and Andrew’s advice – as we usually say in this article at WFIL, you do YOU. x
