Get ready for an utterly epic Brighton barn wedding! It’s so exciting to be sharing Hannah and Jolene’s boho festival celebrations at Pangdean Old Barn. Why? Allow me to share all.
Hannah and Jolene completely infused their personalities into their wedding. From their love of music and festivals to America and even their local Brighton venue, they incorporated them all.
You’re going to love the pink wedding car, bright blooms, fortune teller, stylish outfits and the glitter bar to name just a few. Gorgeous!
Kim Williams Weddings, thank you so much for sharing with us these sensational images of such a special day in Brighton.
Brighton Barn Wedding
The Proposal
June 13th 2021, Me (Hannah) and Jolene were sitting outside our favourite pub the Heart and Hand in Brighton North Laines and I popped the question over a pint. It was very low key neither of us like overblown romantic gestures (Jolene more than me hates being centre of attention).
We went on to pick our own rings and book our venue in the few weeks after!
The Vision
We both decided post lockdown we wanted to give our friends and family a party they wouldn’t forget. We felt so passionate about getting everyone together and our friends and family are important to both of us.
We wanted to hang onto parts of wedding tradition that we liked and equally did things our own way. Getting married that bit older we know what we like!
We wanted to hold the wedding in Brighton where me and Jolene both grew up. We ended up with a venue 5 mins from where we live. We tried to add Brighton seaside elements to our aesthetics on the day (no kiss me quick hats mind you!). We had rock with our names running through and hand-painted ‘seaside’ signs for our sweet buffet.
We are both lovers of music, Jolene is a Glastonbury veteran, and I (Hannah) am into my harder rock and metal. We had a hand-painted Glastonbury sign made for our garden ceremony (created great photo ops!) and a fortune teller for festival and seaside vibes. We brought this to life in the evening as my (Hannah) cousins are in a band who did a ‘Love Aid’ set (classic rock covers) homage to Live Aid 1985.
Our tables were all named after some of our favourite artists (we sat at Stevie Nicks our idol).
We used VIP festival as our benchmark as we also like the finer things. We served English (Sussex) sparkling wine and oysters as part of our canapes for after the ceremony which our guests loved and still talk about (also created lots of photo opportunities)! We wanted to delight and surprise and share things that we love with our guests!
We really wanted to get married in the garden, May is always so good for flowers! We liked the boho outdoors vibes it brought to the ceremony.
I (Hannah) am a big fan of America! And American cars so for me a pink Cadillac was a must. We had a neon sign above us at dinner to give that diner feel as well as my make-up and hair giving 50s vibes.
The Venue
Pangdean Old Barn, Brighton
Your Outfits
We didn’t know what each other was wearing but ended up in really similar lace and chiffon. We wanted a boho look that would complement the English garden location and teamed it up with boots and sunnies for that more vibey look!
We both had an outfit change later on (for our disco). Jolene opted for a short dress with ruffles and Hannah a white jumpsuit (both from Coast).
Jolene’s dress – The Ozone
Hannah’s dress – White Leaf Boutique
Our bridesmaids (little girls) had jumpsuits (with matching green sashes to the older girls’ dresses) and them and our page boys (matching bow ties to the older girls’ dresses) had glittery converse. Our best people and our adult bridesmaid wore Olive/Sage dresses from Asos with gold hoops and pale pink sandals.
The Ceremony & Music
We opted for a simple marriage ceremony with traditional vows, My mum (Hannah) did a reading of an Apache Love poem.
- Walking down the aisle – Today by Jefferson Airplane
- Signing music – Albatross by Fleetwood Mac, Cool Cats by Queen & Tougher Than the Rest – Bruce Springsteen
- Exit after ceremony – Heroes – David Bowie
- First Dance Song – Roy Orbinson – You Got It

Our barn was so beautiful we didn’t need too many extras, already had fairy lights and Olive trees.
Our colours sage, dusky pink, bright/neon pink and gold.

Cake – plain white with gold and flowers.
Outside the venue in the evening we had a VW-converted photobooth and glitter station to give festival vibes!
Stationery – black and white with floral design with black and white photos as our table names, and the top table had a neon sign of our initials.
Favours – shots of Tuaca (popular drink in Brighton).
Sweets bar – Brighton-themed with rock.
Signs – order of service and table plan – black and white with floral design.
Sign – Glastonbury hand-painted for us.
Snacks – we had free bar snacks for our guests.
Flip Flops and toiletries – in the bathroom.
Hangover kits were also given away!
The Honeymoon
Mauritius, it was fantastic and so relaxing after the lead-up to the wedding and we booked it with Audley Travel.
Memorable Moments
- My (Hannah) mum starting to cry during reading in our ceremony and me saying hold it together, everyone laughed – relieving the tension.
- Laughing and crying in the speeches
- Our first look at the bottom of the garden.
- Our first dance was just special and magical, we thought it would be more awkward.
- The oysters and fortune teller in the garden and seeing everyone enjoy.
- Our family’s band performing with our very good mutual friend.
- Wonderful weather with the amazing backdrop of the south downs.
- That car of dreams and having our photos taken alongside (creating the ultimate album cover).
Advice For Other Couples
I know its easier said than done but don’t get hung up on what other people are doing and comparing yourselves to other couples – be true to you.
If you are providing plenty of booze, ensure there’s plenty for people to eat!
Live music is a game changer, really brings up the energy!
If you can a private space/cloakroom/toilet where you can take a minute to yourself!
Does it get any more beautiful? I think not!
Hannah and Jolene, thank you both so much for sharing your memorable and gorgeous Brighton barn wedding!
